WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Biden will announce a $2 trillion plan to invest in infrastructure and reduce climate pollution over the next 8 years.
Ahead of today’s historic announcement, Dominique Browning, Director and Co-Founder of Moms Clean Air Force, issued the following statement:
“The American Jobs Plan proposes the single largest investment in solving the climate crisis that America has ever seen. It’s about time. The Biden-Harris Administration presents us with a bold vision for our county that everyone can support: the creation of new jobs; the security of our country; the health and safety of our loved ones; and a fair and just world where all people have a chance to thrive, and all work is respected. This plan will modernize and clean up the infrastructure we rely upon every day.
“As our more than 1 and a half million members know, climate change threatens our children’s health and future just as it also threatens our entire economy. The American Jobs plan will get us on a path to climate safety by ensuring that we get much more electricity from non-polluting sources—sources that do not release the carbon and methane that are disrupting our climate. We will harness that clean electricity to supercharge as much of our lives as possible, from the ways we heat our homes to the ways we drive to work. New jobs will flow from the investments in building out these new infrastructure systems. And importantly, Biden’s plan makes sure that these opportunities are distributed fairly and equitably, leaving no one out.
“Electrifying our transportation system — and cleaning up our electricity — are essential actions we must take right now —and not just to fight the climate crisis. This transformation will also slash air pollution, which causes disproportionate harm to low-income neighborhoods and communities of color. We need zero-emission cars, trucks, and buses, as well as investments in charging infrastructure. The American Jobs Plan is an essential first step in this long overdue transition, which will help families literally breathe easier as we cut more and more carbon pollution from our economy.
“Moms are also cheering for planned investments in plugging abandoned oil and gas wells; retrofitting millions of homes and commercial buildings so they don’t waste energy; replacing all the lead pipes that provide water to our families. It is also way past time to eliminate decades worth of fossil fuel tax breaks. This is what a climate-safe future looks like.
“The American Jobs plan is actually an American Kids plan: It’s an investment in climate safety for our children and grandchildren. Let’s go!”
