WASHINGTON, DC– President Trump yesterday signed an executive order that threatens the Endangerment Finding, which requires the EPA to curb emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and other climate pollutants.
In response, Moms Clean Air Force Director & Co-Founder Dominique Browning released the following statement:
“The terrible danger created by the Trump executive order around the ‘Endangerment Finding’ on climate pollution will be life-altering. With the stroke of a pen, Trump is attempting to end the EPA’s ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, such as methane and carbon, through protections against industrial sources, cars and trucks, leaky oil and gas wells, and all other sources.
“This means that the U.S. will have no federal path in place for cutting the pollution that is rapidly destabilizing our climate and putting our weather on steroids, contributing mightily to ferocious wildfire seasons that are longer-lasting than ever, rising sea levels, prolonged and record-breaking heat waves and extended droughts. This executive order, giving EPA 30 days to recommend a course of action, is straight out of the Project 2025 wishlist. Put simply, it would endanger our country’s very ability to protect children and communities from the perilous—and even deadly—consequences of global warming.
“This executive order, couched under the language of ‘Unleashing American Energy’ is no less than a giveback to the fossil fuel industry—and the most destructive part of a reckless, treacherous, and expensive agenda. And it’s all our children who will ultimately pay the price.
“The large question now remains: Will EPA nominee Zeldin stand with long-settled law and recommend to OMB nominee Vought, architect of Project 2025, that the endangerment findings be left in place?
“There is no small irony that this executive order is part of Trump’s National Energy Emergency, while the Trump administration is trying to keep all non-fossil fuel sources like wind and solar out of our energy mix. The only emergency is one being created by a lack of action on climate emissions.”
