SUMMARY:EcoMadres Investiga: Huracanes\, Salud y Justicia Energética
\nAcompáñanos junto a John Morales\, Dra. \nEvery hurricane season reminds us that families in Puerto Rico\, Florida\, and throughout the Gulf Coast are on the front lines of the climate crisis. Behind every storm are stories of health\, inequality\, and resilience—and of communities demanding justice in how we prepare and recover. \nThis episode of EcoMadres Investigates will explore how hurricanes expose the connections between climate\, health\, and energy. From the instability of the electric grid in Puerto Rico and the influence of corporate actors like LUMA\, to the urgency of moving toward equitable\, clean energy in Florida and beyond. \nJoin us in this conversation with John Morales\, Dr. Gredia Huerta-Montañez\, and Perla Marvell to reflect and take a clear step toward justice for communities most impacted by the climate crisis. \nModerator: Karin Stein\, EcoMadres Organizer Panelists: John Morales\, Hurricane Specialist and Founder of ClimaData Dr. Gredia Huerta-Montañez\, Pediatrician and cofounder of Puerto Rico Clinicians for Climate Action Perla Marvell\, Editor at Yale Climate Connections \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:They Poisoned the World: Life and Death in the Age of Forever Chemicals Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Children’s Environmental Health Day conversation about the widespread pollution of “forever chemicals” and their impact on the health of children and families. \nInvestigative journalist Mariah Blake will share insights from her new book\, “They Poisoned the World: Life and Death in the Age of Forever Chemicals\,” a gripping exposé of the chemical industry and its decades-long campaign to hide the dangers of these substances. Drawing on years of reporting\, the book reveals how these man-made chemicals—found in everything from lipstick and cookware to children’s clothing—have thoroughly polluted the environment and our bodies\, endangering our health. They have also been linked cancer\, infertility\, obesity\, diabetes\, hormone disruption\, and life-threatening pregnancy complications. \nBecoming a mother inspired Mariah’s journey to understand the threat posed by toxic chemicals and what we can do to protect future generations. In conversation with Moms Clean Air Force National Field Manager Maria Finnegan\, she will discuss her book\, as well as: \n\nChallenges of raising children in the age of chemical pollution\nInspiring grassroots movements that are fighting to turn off the tap on toxic chemicals like PFAS\nConcrete steps we can take to protect our families\n\nMariah Blake is an award-winning investigative journalist whose writing has appeared in The New York Times\, The Atlantic\, Mother Jones\, The New Republic\, and other publications. She was a Murrey Marder Nieman Fellow in Watchdog Journalism at Harvard University. This is her first book. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Fueling Disaster: How Rescinding the Endangerment Finding Would Worsen Petrochemical Disasters
DESCRIPTION:Join Moms Clean Air Force Director and Co-Founder Dominique Browning for several expert interviews about how the Trump Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal to rescind the Endangerment Finding would worsen petrochemical disasters\, increase pollution\, and devastate communities. Petrochemical expert Cynthia Palmer will also discuss her new analysis about these catastrophic risks which will be published during the webinar. \nFor context\, the Endangerment Finding is the legal & scientific foundation of EPA’s ability to regulate climate emissions. If the Trump EPA succeeds in their effort to rescind the Endangerment Finding\, it would do catastrophic harm to frontline communities and to the climate we leave for future generations all while letting polluters off the hook. \nBut\, there’s still time to fight back. The EPA is taking public comments until September 22\, and we’ll make sure you leave the webinar empowered to submit your own and make your voice heard. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Air Permitting in Wisconsin & How It Impacts Our Health
DESCRIPTION:Wisconsin’s utility regulatory system is failing the public with permitting processes that support industry\, not the people. The agencies responsible for making these decisions cannot deny a permit based on health or environmental impact if technical requirements are met\, regardless of real-world harm. \nJoin us to learn more about the WI Department of Natural Resources’ role in the utility regulatory system\, potential flaws in their air permitting process and how it affects the health and wellbeing of Wisconsinites\, and what steps can be taken to advocate for ourselves and our communities. \nSpeakers include: Dr. Brittany Keyes\, Healthy Climate Wisconsin; Jayne Black\, Moms Clean Air Force\, and Kat Klawes\, Citizen Action of Wisconsin. There will be time for Q&A at the end of the presentation. \nRSVP here.
