Lucia Valentine is the West Virginia field coordinator. Her passion and work are dedicated to the intersection of climate justice and advocacy. Growing up in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Lucia is proud to be from the Mountain State and is no stranger to the negative environmental impacts of heavy industry on her state. Her faith keeps her deeply rooted in her climate work, as she feels called to be a steward of this beautiful land she calls home. Lucia envisions a cleaner, healthier environment and economy for West Virginia and advocates for a just transition that will leave no family or community behind. Her work has been featured in the Martinsburg Journal, the West Virginia Gazette-Mail, the Times West Virginian, the Herald-Dispatch, and Public News Service.
Before joining Moms, Lucia interned with Our Children’s Trust, advocating for the Children’s Fundamental Rights and Climate Recovery resolution supporting the principles underpinning the landmark constitutional climate lawsuit Juliana v. United States. Her experience in advancing a legal campaign, lobbying Congress, and advocating for children’s rights allows her to apply her skills and enthusiasm for public service to her work with Moms Clean Air Force. Her previous campaign and political work in West Virginia has helped prepare her for this moment in West Virginia politics and policy.
Lucia is also a singer/songwriter and enjoys combining her art with her climate activism, as she believes in cultivating creativity to help solve and build community around our most pressing social issues.
