GASP is a group of citizens who believe that all Alabamians have a right to breathe clean air. We believe that people’s health should be the first priority when considering policies that affect the quality of our community’s air. The mission of GASP is to improve air quality for the sake of public health. We strive to reduce pollution, educate the public on the health risks associated with poor air quality and encourage the community’s leaders to serve as role models for clean air and clean energy production. Our initial focus is the greater Birmingham community since it is suffering from the dirtiest air in our state, and is ranked as having the 12th dirtiest air in the country (for particle pollution) by the American Lung Association.
