What We’re Working On
Tell MidAmerican Energy: Iowans Want Clean Power
Moms Clean Air Force is a member of the Clean Up MidAm coalition in Iowa, which is calling on MidAmerican Energy to draft a plan to protect public health by transitioning away from coal-fired power plants by 2030. MidAm advertises a clean energy vision but runs one of the largest coal fleets in the country. It is the single largest climate polluter in Iowa.
Tell Iowa School Districts: Our Kids Deserve a Clean Ride to School
Every day, thousands of Iowa children ride school buses that run on dirty diesel engines. Diesel exhaust is a known human carcinogen that can trigger asthma attacks and interfere with learning. Electric school buses are a better alternative since they have zero tailpipe emissions, ensuring children breathe clean air on their way to and from school.
Tell Iowa Members of Congress: Burning Plastic Is Not a Solution to the Plastics Crisis
Congress is considering a bill that would promote "advanced recycling," a.k.a. burning plastic, as a solution to plastic pollution. This is dangerous. Thanks to chemical industry lobbyists, 25 states, including Iowa, have passed state laws exempting these facilities from air pollution controls. If this bill passes, polluting plastics burning facilities would proliferate across the country—in Iowa and beyond.

Events and Resources in Iowa
Why We Care
Iowa faces significant risks from climate change. Without urgent action, summers could see 92 days over 90°F and 55 days over 100°F by the century’s end, compared to today’s 22 days. This extreme heat puts families, outdoor workers, older adults, and young children at risk of heat-related illness and death.
Iowa’s 84,900 farms are also at risk. As the second-largest exporter of agricultural products in the U.S., rising temperatures could devastate crops and extend pest seasons.
On the energy front, wind energy powers 58% of Iowa’s electricity—the highest share in the U.S. Despite this progress, 33% of Iowa’s electricity still comes from coal. Transitioning further to renewables would significantly reduce climate-warming emissions and protect Iowa’s future.
