SUMMARY:Data Centers & Fossil Fuel Pollution: Implications for Community Health with Harvard's Dominic Lab
DESCRIPTION:During Earth Month\, we’re shining a spotlight on the rapid expansion of data centers – and what it means for the health of our communities. \nMany of these facilities rely on backup diesel generators and gas turbines that release harmful air pollution\, contributing to asthma\, heart and lung disease\, cancer\, and premature death. \nWe’ll be welcoming special guest Dr. Michael Cork\, an environmental health scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health\, whose studies help translate how emissions – especially particulate matter or PM 2.5 – from this large-scale infrastructure translate into measurable health and economic costs. \nOur work at Moms Clean Air Force is grounded in strong science and data\, and we’re proud to partner with a leading institution helping to quantify these real world impacts. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Dominici Lab conducts leading research on air pollution\, climate\, and health. \nWe’ll also highlight Moms Clean Air Force’s work advocating for strong health protections in states like Wisconsin\, Pennsylvania\, Virginia\, and Tennessee. In one of Dr. Cork’s analyses\, a proposed project was estimated to result in $30-44 million in annual health damages\, adding pollution to communities already at or near federal air quality limits\, and with some of the highest vulnerability levels in the region. \nWe hope you’ll join us! \nRegister here.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Children’s Environmental Health Day conversation about the widespread pollution of “forever chemicals” and their impact on the health of children and families. \nInvestigative journalist Mariah Blake will share insights from her new book\, “They Poisoned the World: Life and Death in the Age of Forever Chemicals\,” a gripping exposé of the chemical industry and its decades-long campaign to hide the dangers of these substances. Drawing on years of reporting\, the book reveals how these man-made chemicals—found in everything from lipstick and cookware to children’s clothing—have thoroughly polluted the environment and our bodies\, endangering our health. They have also been linked cancer\, infertility\, obesity\, diabetes\, hormone disruption\, and life-threatening pregnancy complications. \nBecoming a mother inspired Mariah’s journey to understand the threat posed by toxic chemicals and what we can do to protect future generations.
