Following in the noble tradition of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr, millennials are turning to civil disobedience to call attention to the looming climate catastrophe. But what about their moms? Should older women risk arrest as well as their daughters? Should I be one of them? Exploring this question, I found one mother and daughter who decide to take this step together.
In telling their story, Nancy and Sara provide insight into the role of direct action in today’s climate struggle; the perils faced and rewards reaped. “It’s scary to put yourself on the line and risk arrest,” says daughter Sara. “If I ever needed to be courageous, it’s now,” replies her mom, Nancy. Hear Nancy and Sara describe their journey to the front lines of the climate movement in this audio story.
