This morning, D.C. area moms and kids showed up bright and early, muffins and Valentines in hand, to welcome Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) employees back to work at the agency’s federal headquarters in Washington, D.C. EPA employees were furloughed for a record thirty-five days due to the partial government shutdown. As workers emerged from their morning commute from the nearby Metro station escalator, they smiled and waved at the sight of the hand-lettered poster reading, “Welcome Back EPA Heroes.” Many accepted muffins and cinnamon rolls before heading into the building to get back to work.
These federal workers help protect our children’s health–guarding our air, water, and soil from health-harming pollution. Moms Clean Air Force celebrates those working to uphold the mission of the EPA–to protect human health and the environment. Unfortunately, Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler, the current nominee to lead EPA, has shown through his actions so far that his priorities are profoundly misaligned with the agency’s mission. Based on Wheeler’s blatant disregard for our kids’ health, Moms Clean Air Force is opposing his nomination to head EPA and are urging our Senators to do the same.
