Welcome to 2019, a year in which our battles against dozens of harmful EPA rollbacks gets even more intense. To kick things off: While many families were enjoying a holiday break, Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced that EPA would begin to undo the very foundation on which the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards is built. But he’s trying to trick us into believing that nothing will change. Wheeler’s radical agenda to support the fossil fuel industry is the most dangerous we’ve ever seen in the history of the Clean Air Act.
The Trump EPA’s sickening legalistic ploy invites coal companies to sue to relax rules against releasing mercury, arsenic, acid gases, heavy metals — all terrible poisons — into our air. Mercury disrupts the developing architecture of the fetal brain — and harms the brains of toddlers, and adults, as well.
Despite Trump’s and Wheeler’s efforts to hide this attack, moms are watching. That’s why we devoted this entire post to letting our members know why moms will not allow the health protective Mercury and Air Toxics Standards to be weakened. EPA says mercury rules are not “necessary and appropriate.” Moms disagree. There’s nothing more necessary than protecting ourselves from poisons, and it is entirely appropriate to clean up air pollution. LEARN MORE about why it’s so crucial we reduce mercury pollution.

FOCUS ON: MERCURY
Mercury easily crosses the placenta, and concentrates in a developing fetus’s blood and organs. 1 in 10 American women of childbearing age have potentially dangerous levels of mercury in their bodies. Learn how the mercury in your child’s tuna sandwich most likely came from the smokestack of a coal-fired power plant. READ OUR MERCURY RESOURCES
