SUMMARY:Breaking: New Study Links Plastic Chemicals to Preterm Birth and Infant Death
DESCRIPTION:How can two widely-used chemicals found in our daily products–they make plastic flexible–possibly lead to millions of preterm births and thousands of infant deaths? A new study links two specific phthalates\, plastic additives known to interfere with hormone production\, to both terrifying outcomes. Specifically\, they were associated with nearly 2 million premature births and the deaths of 74\,000 newborns worldwide in 2018. And they’re still in our household products—cosmetics\, detergents\, even bug repellants—today. \nTo make sense of these upsetting new findings\, Moms’ Co-Founder and Director Dominique Browning will be in live conversation on Monday\, April 6\, at 10:30 AM ET with the study’s senior author—and Moms’ go-to expert on all things plastic\, hormones\, and children’s health—Dr. Leonardo Trasande\, MD\, MPP\, the Jim G. Hendrick\, MD\, Professor of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. \nLearn more and register here. \nTune in to find out why these chemicals are in our homes\, how they can create so much harm and still be allowed in our homes\, and what actions families can take to both protect our children and advocate for possible regulations and legislation.

SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Frontline Communities Sound Alarm on Plastics Threat to Public health
DESCRIPTION:Pennsylvania State Senator Comitta\, Moms Clean Air Force\, Clean Air Action\, and BCMAC\, are calling on Pennsylvania leaders to safeguard communities from the impacts of a fossil fuel and plastic industry buildout.  \nCommunities across Pennsylvania are already facing dangerous air pollution from existing petrochemical facilities—pollution that harms public health and accelerates climate change. At the same time\, the plastics supply chain is exposing families to toxic chemicals\, including microplastics and PFAS\, that are increasingly linked to serious health risks. \nAdvocates and experts warn that proposed expansions would lock Pennsylvania into decades of additional plastic production\, more fracked fossil fuel infrastructure\, and greater pollution burdens for frontline communities. \nSpeakers will highlight the health risks associated with plastics and petrochemicals and call on policymakers to prioritize the health and safety of Pennsylvania families. \nSpeakers include: \n\nRachel Meyer\, Pennsylvania Field Organizer\, Moms Clean Air Force\n\n\nState Senator Carolyn Comitta\, Pennsylvania State Senate\, District 19\n\n\nHilary O’Toole\, Executive Director of BCMAC\n\n\nEmily Wildman\, Legislative Advocate\, Clean Air Action\n\nWatch live on X @cCleanAirMoms_PA. SUMMARY:Justice in Every Breath: The Oil and Chemical Industry: A Threat to Children’s Health
DESCRIPTION:For this month’s Justice in Every Breath\, our IG Live series centering environmental justice\, Moms Clean Air Force’s Almeta Cooper sits down with Jasia Smith of the Center for American Progress for a critical conversation about children’s health and environmental protection. \nLearn more and RSVP here. \nJasia co-authored the report How the Trump Administration’s Embrace of Oil\, Gas\, and Chemical Industry Interests Will Endanger Children’s Health. The report examines how weakening environmental and public health protections threatens children’s well-being\, particularly those living near fossil fuel facilities and industrial polluters. \nWe’ll break down the report’s findings about the links between environmental toxins\, climate change\, and a decline in U.S. children’s health—and about the risk to our families of environmental protection rollbacks. \nDuring #blackhistorymonth\, we recognize that Black children have historically and are still disproportionately exposed to pollution. Clean air is a fundamental human right.

SUMMARY:Motherhood Live: The "Wine Mom" Label & Other Cons to Silence Moms
DESCRIPTION:Apparently\, moms are the latest “threat” to America. According to recent media narratives\, the real danger isn’t broken systems or failed leadership. It’s “organized gangs of wine moms”—women who are standing up\, speaking out\, and refusing to stay quiet. It’s meant to sound ridiculous. And it is. But it’s also deliberate. \nWhen women show up in public and refuse to be silent\, ridicule is always the first line of attack. Labels are used to shrink us. Jokes are used to dismiss us. Panic is manufactured to push us back into our place. But we know better. \nMoms’ Isabel González Whitaker will join Reshma Saujani\, Gloria Steinem\, Ilana Glazer\, Anna Malaika Tubbs\, Emily Oster\, Shannon Watts\, Erin Maye Quade\, Katie Bethell\, and thousands of other moms for a live conversation decoding the cons meant to shrink moms’ voices. This virtual event will leave you educated\, energized\, and ready to show up anyway. Register to save your spot. \nThis event is brought to you in partnership with Moms First\, Culture House\, EcoMadres\, the Meteor\, Moms Clean Air Force\, Mother Tongue\, MoveOn\, Red Wine & Blue\, and WIE Suite.
