SUMMARY:Data Centers & Fossil Fuel Pollution: Implications for Community Health with Harvard's Dominic Lab
DESCRIPTION:During Earth Month\, we’re shining a spotlight on the rapid expansion of data centers – and what it means for the health of our communities. \nMany of these facilities rely on backup diesel generators and gas turbines that release harmful air pollution\, contributing to asthma\, heart and lung disease\, cancer\, and premature death. \nWe’ll be welcoming special guest Dr. Michael Cork\, an environmental health scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health\, whose studies help translate how emissions – especially particulate matter or PM 2.5 – from this large-scale infrastructure translate into measurable health and economic costs. \nOur work at Moms Clean Air Force is grounded in strong science and data\, and we’re proud to partner with a leading institution helping to quantify these real world impacts. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Dominici Lab conducts leading research on air pollution\, climate\, and health. \nWe’ll also highlight Moms Clean Air Force’s work advocating for strong health protections in states like Wisconsin\, Pennsylvania\, Virginia\, and Tennessee. In one of Dr. Cork’s analyses\, a proposed project was estimated to result in $30-44 million in annual health damages\, adding pollution to communities already at or near federal air quality limits\, and with some of the highest vulnerability levels in the region. \nWe hope you’ll join us! \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Frontline Communities Sound Alarm on Petrochemical Threat to Public Health
DESCRIPTION:Community leaders and public health experts are calling on Ohio leaders to safeguard communities from the impacts of petrochemical and plastic industry buildout. \nCommunities across Ohio are already exposed to dangerous air pollution from existing petrochemical facilities that harms public health and accelerates climate change. At the same time\, the plastics supply chain is exposing families to toxic chemicals\, including microplastics and PFAS\, that are increasingly linked to serious health risks. \nAdvocates and experts are sounding the alarm: proposed expansions would lock Ohio into decades of additional plastic production\, more fracked fossil fuel infrastructure\, and greater pollution for frontline communities. Tune in to hear from public health experts\, environmental advocates\, and community members dealing with the impacts firsthand. \nSpeakers: \n\nAmanda Rowoldt\, Ohio Field Organizer\, Moms Clean Air Force and EcoMadres\nDr. Peggy Ann Berry\, PhD RN\, COHN-S\, CLE\, PLNC\, FAAOHN\nCat Adams (she/her)\, Petrochemicals Organizer\, Buckeye Environmental Network\n\nRSVP here.

SUMMARY:Environmental Utopia or Dystopia: The World We Imagine for Our Children
DESCRIPTION:At a time when the future feels fragile and the world around us is in flux\, this year’s Sierra Symposium in Los Angeles\, California\, calls us to imagine and build something better. Featuring keynote speaker Nancy Pelosi\, this event will bring together leaders from government\, film\, academia\, and climate advocacy to explore how storytelling\, culture\, and policy shape the environmental footprint we leave behind. Our children will inherit the consequences of today’s choices. Together\, we ask: What kind of future are we brave enough to imagine? \nLearn more and register here.

SUMMARY:Breaking: New Study Links Plastic Chemicals to Preterm Birth and Infant Death
DESCRIPTION:How can two widely-used chemicals found in our daily products–they make plastic flexible–possibly lead to millions of preterm births and thousands of infant deaths? A new study links two specific phthalates\, plastic additives known to interfere with hormone production\, to both terrifying outcomes. Specifically\, they were associated with nearly 2 million premature births and the deaths of 74\,000 newborns worldwide in 2018. And they’re still in our household products—cosmetics\, detergents\, even bug repellants—today. \nTo make sense of these upsetting new findings\, Moms’ Co-Founder and Director Dominique Browning will be in live conversation on Monday\, April 6\, at 10:30 AM ET with the study’s senior author—and Moms’ go-to expert on all things plastic\, hormones\, and children’s health—Dr. Leonardo Trasande\, MD\, MPP\, the Jim G. Hendrick\, MD\, Professor of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. \nLearn more and register here. \nTune in to find out why these chemicals are in our homes\, how they can create so much harm and still be allowed in our homes\, and what actions families can take to both protect our children and advocate for possible regulations and legislation.

SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Frontline Communities Sound Alarm on Plastics Threat to Public health
DESCRIPTION:Pennsylvania State Senator Comitta\, Moms Clean Air Force\, Clean Air Action\, and BCMAC\, are calling on Pennsylvania leaders to safeguard communities from the impacts of a fossil fuel and plastic industry buildout.  \nCommunities across Pennsylvania are already facing dangerous air pollution from existing petrochemical facilities—pollution that harms public health and accelerates climate change. At the same time\, the plastics supply chain is exposing families to toxic chemicals\, including microplastics and PFAS\, that are increasingly linked to serious health risks. \nAdvocates and experts warn that proposed expansions would lock Pennsylvania into decades of additional plastic production\, more fracked fossil fuel infrastructure\, and greater pollution burdens for frontline communities. \nSpeakers will highlight the health risks associated with plastics and petrochemicals and call on policymakers to prioritize the health and safety of Pennsylvania families. \nSpeakers include: \n\nRachel Meyer\, Pennsylvania Field Organizer\, Moms Clean Air Force\n\n\nState Senator Carolyn Comitta\, Pennsylvania State Senate\, District 19\n\n\nHilary O’Toole\, Executive Director of BCMAC\n\n\nEmily Wildman\, Legislative Advocate\, Clean Air Action\n\nWatch live on X @cCleanAirMoms_PA. SUMMARY:Coffee & Climate Conversation: Community Power – Mom Leads Community to Stop a Data Center
DESCRIPTION:When a fossil fuel powered data center was proposed near her home\, Wisconsin mom and Moms Clean Air Force Field Organizer Jayne Black knew something was not right. Acting as a concerned neighbor\, she helped spark a rapid community response that grew to thousands of residents speaking up for clean air and public health. Within days\, the company withdrew its proposal. \nJoin us for a Coffee and Climate Conversation with Jayne Black and a local neighbor turned activist who helped lead the fight. Together they will share how the organizing came together so quickly\, why community voice mattered\, and what other families should know as data centers continue to expand across the country. \nLearn more and RSVP here. \nThis will be an informal\, conversational discussion with time for questions and shared learning.
