A parent’s love is amazing. More than 28,000 of you have asked the candidates to give us concrete plans to stop global warming and to protect our kids from its impact. And we still haven’t gotten an answer. So we need more of your help.
Let’s show the candidates, running for the nation’s highest office, what’s at stake here. Let’s remind them WHO they will be serving.
Here’s what we are thinking:
We are inviting you and your child to draw a picture of why they want Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to tackle climate change. The picture can be anything your child can imagine: a portrait of your family, a picture of a future world where climate change has been addressed, a future of how hot the summer felt, or how they miss snow, or anything else you all come up with.
We are going to put some of the drawings up on a billboard in Denver…JUST IN TIME TO GREET THE CANDIDATES DURING THE FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE MODERATED BY JIM LEHRER.
We’ll also put your drawings online in a powerful, shareable collection that we can send to the candidates and share through Facebook and Twitter. Together, we’ll show the candidates that even children demand action. Of course. They are inheriting this world.
Want to help make it happen? Go get some markers and crayons, clear off the kitchen table, and ask your kids to create! Here’s how to submit your child’s masterpiece:
- Take a photo of the drawing and send it to: info@momscleanairforce.org
- Take a photo of the drawing and then post it to Twitter with hashtag: #PBSmoms
- Take a photo of the drawing and then post it to the MCAF Facebook page.
Families have the power to drastically alter our national climate conversation. Who else besides moms, dads, aunts, uncles and grandparents have such a powerful incentive to care about the far-away future?
Children don’t blow hot air the way politicians do. They don’t give us slogans (though they do say the darndest things). But their drawings have a power beyond policy briefs. There’s a reason our refrigerators are covered with colorful paintings!
We need to keep taking action to make sure the presidential candidates hear our message. We need your help to make it happen.
A heartfelt thanks from Moms Clean Air Force. It is good to know that we’re in this together.
