Lupe Anguiano
Oxnard, California
Lupe is a fantastic example of a woman who saw a problem and didn’t stop till it was solved. Her City of Oxnard, CA was about to be polluted by several Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) proposals from Gas and Oil Companies. LNG is easy to store and transport but if it leaks, it vaporizes rapidly releasing methane among other gases. This mixture is flammable and very dangerous to breathe and the pipes that would hold the gas were slated to run under the homes and schools in her city.
She rallied her community, won of the support of a city councilman and kept her community safe. She founded “Stewards of the Earth” after successfully winning her seven-year struggle to protect Oxnard, CA from several Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) proposals.
Clean air is important to her because we each breathe over 19,000 times per day. Breathing is essential to living a healthy life. She is a 15-year, former Catholic nun, who has always worked to protect Mother Earth from destructive projects. She believes the Earth provides for our well-being – we need to respect the laws of nature.
“I was drawn to MCAF because of its focus on protecting the clean air- which children need to grow up healthy. I am honored to partner with you in this mission – which is similar to Stewards of the Earth.” ~ Lupe Anguiano
Thank you, Lupe!
